How do I find out who is competing, where and when?

You can find out when and where a particular athlete or team is competing, by simply visiting www.worldmastersgames.co.nz and clicking on The Sports / Your Sport and selecting the sport you are interested in.

How do I find Games results?

Sports results will be posted on the WMG2017 website daily at 8am and 9pm.

To access- Visit the WMG2017 website, click the media button on the homepage, and then the results button on the Online Media Centre page.  The latest results can be found there.

What content is available for media to use during the Games – e.g. images and video?

WMG2017 will make images and video clips (suitable for broadcast or online media use) available daily through the Online Media Centre on the website. Click the Media button on the homepage you will find the available content. Where possible, accredited media will be notified by email when new images and video clips are uploaded.

How do I access content for media?

Click the Media button on the homepage you will find the available content. The content is available to accredited media only. Accredited media will be provided with a password to download the content.

Is there a WMG2017 Media Centre in Auckland I can visit and work?

There is no dedicated Media Centre for WMG2017 as all media resources will be provided via the Online Media Centre at worldmastersgames2017.co.nz. If you cannot find the information you need through the Online Media Centre or on the general Games website please contact the WMG2017 Media Services team on +64 21 840 270 or at media@wmg2017.co.nz.

There is a Media Briefing Room at Auckland SKYCITY Convention Centre and accredited media will be advised by email of upcoming media briefings.

Are there any media rooms at venues?

Most of the WMG2017 competition venues are community sports venues and do not have dedicated media facilities. They are not required to provide media rooms as part of their WMG2017 role. Media facilities will be available at the Opening Ceremony but will not be available at other venues.

Can all media attend the Opening Ceremony?

No. There is limited capacity for media at the Opening Ceremony and that capacity has been reached. We are notifying all accredited media who have indicated that they would like to attend the Opening Ceremony to let them know whether there is space for them.

Can media simply go to Games venues and capture footage?

Unless you arrange your visit to a Games venue with the WMG2017 Media Services Team in advance, there is no guarantee you will get the content you require. This is because several of the competition venues have very limited capacity for media. We recommend you contact the WMG2017 Media Services team on +64 21 840 270 as early as possible and arrange your visit. Where venues have limited capacity to media, priority will be given to accredited media who have arranged their visit in advance. Others may miss out.

What is the easiest way to get to World Masters Games venues?

While there is no dedicated transport service provided by WMG2017 for media, there is transport information available on the WMG2017 website. Visit the Online Media Centre and click the Transport button. There is a transport guide provided for each WMG2017 venue which includes public transport and parking information. Taxis are also available through Co-op Taxis on +64 9 300 3000.

Is there organised transport for media to Games venues?

No, WMG2017 is not organising transport for media to venues. There is transport information available on the Games website. Visit the Online Media Centre and click the Transport button. There is a transport guide provided for each WMG2017 venue, which includes public transport and parking information. Taxis are also available through Co-op Taxis on +64 9 300 3000.

Is there any parking available for media at venues, or the Entertainment Hub?

There is no dedicated parking for media. Media will need to utilise on site or nearby parking that is available to Games participants or the public. There is parking information for all venues on the WMG2017 website. Simply visit the Online Media Centre, click the Transport button and follow the prompts to the individual venue transport guides.

What happens if I do not give advance notice that I will be attending a WMG2017 venue to cover a specific event?

You may not get into the venue you arrive at. Some venues have very limited capacity for media and access to those venues is by prior arrangement only. Those venues include:

  • AUT Millennium (Pool swimming)
  • ASB Showgrounds (Indoor Archery)
  • Auckland Badminton Centre (Badminton)
  • Auckland Table Tennis Centre (Table Tennis)
  • Woodhill Mountain Bike Park (Mountain Bike)
  • Westlake Girls High School (Football)
  • Torbay Sailing Club (Sailing – on water / chase boat access)
  • Mairangi Bay Beach Volleyball (Beach Volleyball)

At all other competition venues, priority will be given to media who have given advance notice of their attendance.

Are there any Wi-Fi services at venues or Entertainment Hub?

There is no free public Wi-Fi at the Entertainment Hub and at WMg2017 venues. While media may be able to access Wi-Fi at some venues, we strongly recommend media purchase portable data packages to ensure connectivity.

What media briefings / press conferences will be held during WMG2017?

There is a Pre-Games media conference scheduled for Thursday 20 April and a media opportunity for interviews with key players following the Closing Ceremony on Sunday 30 April. Additional media conferences during the Games will be scheduled as required and accredited media will be notified by email.

Where will they be held?

The Pre-Games media conference on Thursday 20 April will be held in the WMG2017 VIP Lounge on Queens Wharf. During the Games all media briefings will be held at the SKYCITY Convention Centre unless otherwise specified. Accredited media will receive notice of media briefings by email.

How do I get an interview with a member of the Local Organising Committee?

Simply contact the Media Services team on +64 21 840 270 and tell us what you want the Local Organising Committee to comment on and we will do our best to provide you with an interview or a response to your questions ASAP.

How do I get an interview with participating athletes?

The media are free to approach individual athletes at a competition venue, however please avoid doing so while they are competing. Alternatively, you can contact the Media Services team on +64 21 840 270 and they may be able to put you in touch with the athlete concerned.

Can we approach WMG2017 Ambassadors for comment?

WMG2017 ambassadors have an extremely busy schedule during the Games so their availability is limited. Your best chance of securing comment from a WMG2017 ambassador is to contact the Media Services team who will do their best to try and arrange a comment. If you wish to get comment from an ambassador while you are covering an event they are competing in, this is best arranged with the Media Services team in advance.

Can I interview volunteers?

Volunteers are not authorised to comment to the media. If you would like to do a story about volunteers or a particular volunteer, you must arrange this in advance by contacting the Media Services team on +64 21 840 270.

Can I still apply for media accreditation for the Games?

Capacity for media accreditation has now been reached and we are not processing further applications at this stage. However, please send your details to media@wmg2017.co.nz and we will notify you if the situation changes.

Because entry to all WMG2017 competitions is free, why do I need media accreditation to go to a venue?

While entry to competition venues is free and they are open to the public, some venues have very limited capacity. Where this is the case priority will be given to registered Games participants and accredited media. Non-accredited media are likely to miss out. Accredited media also receive priority treatment from the WMG2017 Media Services team including email notifications of upcoming stories, access to images and video clips, and more.
