The Closing Ceremony is a special occasion honouring the memories and companionships created during the Games, and features a handover of the organising responsibilities to the next host of the Summer World Masters Games in 2021, the Kansai region of Japan. The Ceremony will take place at the Entertainment Hub at Queen's Wharf, downtown Auckland.

Attendees can expect an evening strong on celebration, acknowledging the achievements of athletes and the contributions of everyone involved in creating the Games experience, along with a farewell to Games visitors as they return to their homes around the world.

There is limited capacity for this event, so we strongly advise that participants arrive early.

Entry onto Queens Wharf
Participants will need to be wearing their WMG2017 Accreditation Pass to gain entry to the Closing Ceremony. If you do not have your Accreditation Pass, then you will need to present a copy of your WMG2017 confirmation email and your ID to security. Those without their pass or proof of confirmation will not be permitted entry.

Children who are five and over attending these events will need to be accredited with a ‘Supporters’ registration, in order to manage capacity.

Any child under five years old will need to be accompanied by an accredited adult, and be able to stand or be held for up to two hours. Please note the Closing Ceremony is an evening occasion and we expect Queens Wharf to be at full capacity. As such, it may not be a suitable event for small children.

What to expect

What to wear
We recommend you wear comfortable footwear and warm clothes as if numbers are high, some participants may be standing outside for the duration. Please also bring wet weather gear just in case!

Seating arrangements
Dignitaries only will be seated for the duration of the Closing Ceremony. Formalities will be standing-only for all other participants.

Accessibility
Wheelchair-accessible seats will be available in The Cloud, however capacity is limited. We strongly recommend participants arrive early.

Transport
We recommend you take public transport to the Closing Ceremony as there is no designated parking. For nearby car parks check out the Auckland Transport website. If you are staying for the entertainment after the Closing Ceremony, remember to plan your journey home. Auckland Transport will be running a late train on each line, timings will be available at the Transport Information Desk on Queens Wharf during the Games.
